How does the control cabinet ensure the security and proper operation of pumps in the industrial sector?

Everything you need to know about the control cabinet that enables you to ensure the safety and proper operation of pumps in the industrial sector

.

Industrial installations use very powerful pumping systems that require specific protection. The technical control cabinet enables you to manage and operate an entire installation. They are used with most electric pumps: well or borehole pumps, boosters, immersion pumps used to recover water or the treatment of water containing particles, etc. There are control cabinets that are suitable for every type of product: diesel fuel, oil, fruit juice, etc. Discover our simple and reliable safety system.

What is a control cabinet?

It is an electric safety and control device that adapts to several types of pumps: surface pumps, lifting pumps, immersed water pumps, booster pumps, etc. They are connected with electrical wiring.

The principle function of this electrical system is to protect the installation. Control cabinets are also capable of detecting all the power failures or interruptions of the pumping system.

For example, they are installed to back up lifting pumps for wells and boreholes. Lifting stations are very sensitive to variations and power surges in the electricity supply. In case of an anomaly, the automated controller triggers their interruption to avoid damage.

This type of control system enables direct intervention on distinct elements of the pump motor: the condenser, switch, etc. It also provides thermal protection. Electronic adjustments are made via a potentiometer.

Control cabinets are also a valuable tool to automate pump operation. It is possible to programme starting and stopping according to the level of water or liquids. This type of control system prevents the lack of water or the overflow of liquids.

What is the role of this control system?

This electrical device continuously manages the installation.

Electrical network monitoring

The cabinet can be used to detect problems of intensity, abnormal circuit breaking, electric motor overheating, etc.
Diodes light up to alert you whenever a problem is detected. Certain control cabinets can incorporate surge or undervoltage detectors.
Exactly like a differential circuit breaker on an electrical installation, they automatically cut off the pumps in case of an electrical anomaly to prevent damage.

Electrical control cabinets thus monitor an entire pumping station and continuously inform you of its operational status.

Pumping system management

The control unit is selected according to the power of the pump and its single-phase or three-phase connection. It combines with the installation of floaters or level sensors in the tank. These tools can manage the automatic start and stop of the pump according to the quantity of liquid.

Depending on their position, the floaters determine the operation of the control unit.

At a low level, their role is to cut off the pump when the tanks are empty or when the liquid has reached a previously set threshold. Automatic cut-off protects from dry start-up and prevents dry pumping, situations which could damage the pump.
Another possible function is to start a tank filling operation. When the floater installed inside the tank indicates that the level is reached, it triggers the priming of the hydraulic pump.

Installed at the pump outlet, the control cabinet is used to activate the evacuation pump when the tank is too full. This enables the suction of the excess liquid to prevent spilling.
This function is essential for the emergency stop of transfer or tanking operations in an ATEX zone. It is possible to activate the alarms when the pre-set level of liquid is reached. This alarm can be visual or auditory. Attention: in ATEX zones, a specific installation is mandatory. Don't hesitate to consult us.

The control cabinet also enables the automatic drainage of pools to empty them of their liquid, such as in a wastewater treatment facility.

Why is the control cabinet an essential safety feature in the industrial sector?

In the industrial sector, this device prevents interruptions of production. When a product reaches the end of stock, the unit controls the filling of the tanks.

By continuously monitoring the level of the liquid, it enables numerous incidents to be avoided. This system can manage the start or stop of the motor of each pump throughout an entire installation consisting of several tanks or pools.

It is an electronic overload relay that enables different settings to be programmed for an installation that consists of a cascade of pumps.

Depending on the quantity of liquid, in litres, at a given time, the cabinet can control:

  • the start-up of complex systems consisting of several hydraulic pumps;
  • automatic switching in case of a failure;
  • pump deactivation;
  • the shutdown of the entire pumping installation.

Lastly, in case of flooding, the control cabinet connected to an immersion pump enables emergency start-up to pump rainwater and to evacuate wastewater.

The control unit is a protection for an industrial pumping station. It is a production regulator that automatically protects you from catastrophes.
